All Occasion Card 611 - was $2.95, now $2.00
We have become the kind of people our parents warned us about. Augustus John (1878-1961)
Augustus John's fame today rests on the brilliant portraits he painted in the first half of the twentieth century. During his lifetime he was just as well known as a Bohemian who crossed the line of acceptable behavior, again and again. He certainly became a shining example of the sort of man that parents warned their daughters about. It all caught up with him when his wife fell in love with his mistress.
The three ladies drinking deeply were photographed at a 1955 fancy dress party in England by Charles Ley.
