I intend to remain young indefinitely. Mary Pickford (1892-1979)
Gladys Marie Smith was a Canadian girl who become known worldwide as the film actress Mary Pickford. She also was an astute businesswoman in an age most women were unable to have a career at all. In 1919 she co-founded United Artists, the production company through which she controlled every aspect of the movies she chose to star in, from set design to distribution. She sold the business in 1956, decades after she retired from acting. She may have been the most powerful woman in the history of Hollywood.
The young leaping lady is Lucille Symser, a dancer with Madame Lubouska's National American Ballet Company, photographed on August 20, 1924.
